قلب اللَه صبح خديه ليلا

قلب اللَه صبح خديه ليلا

وطلى ذلك البياض سوادا

وطلى ذلك البياض سوادا

God turned the dawn of his cheeks into night,

God tinted the cheeks' dawn black at night

And painted that whiteness black.

And overlaid that whiteness with darkness

فغدا ماء وجنتيه سرابا

فغدا ماء وجنتيه سرابا

وغدت جمرة الجمال جمادا

وغدت جمرة الجمال جمادا

So the water of his cheeks became a mirage,

So the water of my cheeks became a mirage

And beauty’s ember became lifeless matter.

And the embers of beauty turned to dead coals
