Were it not for Abu al-Zubayr's swords and his cavalry,

Al-Walid would have revived al-Dahhak with his sword.

Your swords were pleased with you the day you met them,

And you answered death's summoner when he called you.

And it is as though the forest lion, in his daring,

One day saw you coming for him and so imitated you.

Indeed, the bands of travelers have come to you seeking wealth,

And the sea, if it could find a way, would come to you.
