طَرَفتُI stung عُيونَthe eyes of الغانِياتِthe beautiful women وَرُبَّماand often
طَرَفتُ عُيونَ الغانِياتِ وَرُبَّما
أَمَلنَthey inclined إِلَيَّtoward me الطَرَفَthe gaze كُلَّevery مَميلِinclination
أَمَلنَ إِلَيَّ الطَرَفَ كُلَّ مَميلِ
I have stung the eyes of beautiful women, though often
I glanced at the eyes of singing girls, and perhaps
They turned their gaze toward me with every inclination.
Every admirer glanced at me too.
وَماand not الشَيبُgray hair إِلّاexcept شَعرَةٌa single hair غَيرَexcept أَنَّهُthat it
وَما الشَيبُ إِلّا شَعرَةٌ غَيرَ أَنَّهُ
قَليلُa little of قَذاةِa mote in العَينِthe eye غَيرُnot قَليلِlittle
قَليلُ قَذاةِ العَينِ غَيرُ قَليلِ
And gray hair is but a single hair, yet
Gray hair is but a single strand, yet it is
A small mote in the eye is no small thing.
Little dust in the eye, though little.
