أَجَدُّكِare you in earnest? ماnot تَدرينَyou know أَنthat رُبَّmany a لَيلَةٍnight
أَجَدُّكِ ما تَدرينَ أَن رُبَّ لَيلَةٍ
كَأَنَّas though دُجاهاits darkness مِنfrom قُرونِكِyour tresses يُنشَرُis unfurled
كَأَنَّ دُجاها مِن قُرونِكِ يُنشَرُ
Do you truly not know that many a night—
as though its darkness were unfurled from your tresses—
صَبَرتُI endured patiently لَهاfor it حَتّىuntil تَجَلَّتit unveiled itself بِغُرَّةٍwith a radiant brow
صَبَرتُ لَها حَتّى تَجَلَّت بِغُرَّةٍ
كَغُرَّةِlike the radiant brow of يحيىYahya حينَwhen يُذكَرُis mentioned جَعفَرُJa'far
كَغُرَّةِ يحيى حينَ يُذكَرُ جَعفَرُ
I endured until it unveiled a radiant brow,
like Yahya's brow when Ja'far is mentioned?
