عِندَ الحَوادِثِ مِن أَخيكَ عَزيمَةٌ
حَصداءُstaunch مُبرَمَةٌfirmly set وَعَقلٌand a mind فاضِلُexcellent
حَصداءُ مُبرَمَةٌ وَعَقلٌ فاضِلُ
In adversity, from your brother comes resolve—
When faced with misfortunes, your brother has
Staunch and firmly set—and an excellent mind.
Steady resolve, a sound mind, and good sense
عَرَفَhe recognized الحُقوقَrightful claims وَقَصَّرَتand fell short أَموالُهُhis wealth
عَرَفَ الحُقوقَ وَقَصَّرَت أَموالُهُ
عَنهاof them وَضاقَand chafed بِهاat them الغَنيُّthe wealthy man الباخِلُthe miserly one
عَنها وَضاقَ بِها الغَنيُّ الباخِلُ
He recognized rightful claims, yet his wealth fell short
He knows rights well, though his means may fall short
Of them, while the wealthy miser chafed at them.
