نَ حَتّى وَمَقتُ اِبنَ سَلمٍ سَعيدا
And out of love for her I loved the misers,

When asked for a favor, he clothes his face
When the torrents rush down the valley and cover it
in garments of meanness, red and black.
With clothes of disgrace, red and black

He raids wealth like a steed,
It changes the deeds of the generous regarding money
yet his nature will not let him be generous.
And his nature refuses to be generous
