أَتَتناcame to us هَداياgifts مِنهُfrom him أَشبَهنَthey resembled ريحَهُhis fragrance
وَأَشبَهَand he resembled فيin الحُسنِbeauty الغَزالَthe gazelle المُكَحَّلاkohl-eyed
Gifts came to us from him, resembling his fragrance;
And he, in beauty, resembled a kohl-eyed gazelle.
وَلَوand if أَنَّهُthat he أَهدىgave as a gift إِلَيَّto me وِصالَهُunion with him
لَكانَit would have been إِلىto قَلبيmy heart أَلَذَّsweeter وَأَفضَلاand better
And had he given me union with him,
It would have been sweeter and better to my heart.
