Anxiety—no sleep, no closing of the eyes, nor
Sleeplessness, so no sleep, no rest, no
has slumber visited an eye of ours that it might close.
The eyes visited the settlements, so that it flows

Amid the darkness, sleeplessness revealed itself; and morning light
In the darkness of night awake appeared, and the morning
has grown distant: it has neither appeared nor come into view.
Became far, it did not last long or unfold
وحديْby myself أرومُI seek السّابحاتِthose that swim كأنَّنيas though I were

Alone, I seek those that swim, as though I were
Alone I pretend to swim as if I
a thread that folded up silver's light and found no solace.
A thread that folded the light of the two seas and did not flow
ياO ليلُnight ويحَكَwoe to you إنْif أَقمتَyou remain مُنازِلًاas a combatant
غَلَبَwill defeat الذيthe one who حـازَsecured المَواقِعَthe positions أعْزَلاan unarmed man
O night, woe to you! If you remain a combatant,
O night, woe to you, if you stay
he who has secured the positions will defeat an unarmed man.
The one who seized the places conquered the most barren
