    وَصَدُّكَ قَدْ تَجاوَزَ كُلَّ صَدِّ

    Your heart, O son of my love, is made of iron;

    And your spurning has surpassed all spurning.

    Rainless are the clouds of union with you; there is no hope

    Of rain from them, nor of thunder’s roaring laughter.

    Years have passed in delay,

    Without honoring a pledge or a promise.

    Union for less than a year, then separation

    So long that no reckoning can encompass it.

    So, O heart tossed about amid many forms

    Of procrastination, turn away from transgression.

    وإنْ كانَ العَقِيق مَثارَ وَجْدِي

    And leave al-Aqiq and its inhabitants behind,

    Even though al-Aqiq is the source of my longing;

    And take the inhabitants of Najd in its place,

    Even if the people of Najd do not cure what ails you.
