أَطْلَقْتَyou released دَمْعِيmy tears بَعْدَafter تَقْيِيدِbinding الْهَوَىpassion
أَطْلَقْتَ دَمْعِي بَعْدَ تَقْيِيدِ الْهَوَى
بحُلُولِwith the settling of أَجْزاparts كُلّهُall of it بِمَحلِّهِin its place
بحُلُولِ أَجْزا كُلّهُ بِمَحلِّهِ
You released my tears after passion was bound,
You unleashed my tears after restraining desire,
With parts settling, all of it in its place.
With the advent of penalties, each in its proper place.
وخَصَصْتَنيand you singled me out بعُمُومِwith the full range of أسْبابٍcauses بِهاthrough them
وخَصَصْتَني بعُمُومِ أسْبابٍ بِها
بَدْءُthe beginning of الْغَرامِardent love غَدَاbecame مُشابِهsimilar to أَوْلِهits beginning
بَدْءُ الْغَرامِ غَدَا مُشابِه أَوْلِه
And you singled me out with the full range of causes through which
You singled me out with general causes through which
The beginning of ardent love came to resemble its start.
The beginnings of passion became like their first stages.
أَلْزَمْتنيyou obliged me ضِدَّthe opposite of الْهَوىpassion عَرَّفْتنيyou made me known
أَلْزَمْتني ضِدَّ الْهَوى عَرَّفْتني
جاوَزْتَyou went beyond آلاتِthe instruments of الْهَوىpassion ببَدِيلهwith its substitute
جاوَزْتَ آلاتِ الْهَوى ببَدِيله
You imposed passion’s opposite on me; you made me known.
You made me oppose desire and got acquainted with me,
You went beyond passion’s instruments with its substitute.
You replaced the instruments of passion with its substitute.
وحَذَفْتَنيand you erased me والْقَلْبُwhile the heart ظَرفُa vessel of مَوَدَّةٍaffection
وحَذَفْتَني والْقَلْبُ ظَرفُ مَوَدَّةٍ
ياO مَنْone who تُسَبِّبُyou give cause للعَذُولِto the reproacher وفِيلهand his elephant
يا مَنْ تُسَبِّبُ للعَذُولِ وفِيله
And you erased me, while the heart is a vessel of affection,
And you dismissed me while the heart is a receptacle of affection.
O you who give cause to the reproacher and his elephant.
O you who provide reasons for withdrawal and its consequences!
