أَمَرْتَYou commanded إلَهيmy God بالمَكارِمِthe noble virtues كُلِّهاall of them
وَلَمْand did not تَرْضَهاapprove them إلاّexcept وأَنْتَand You لَهاof them أَهْلُworthy
You commanded all noble virtues, my God,
My God, you have commanded all good virtues
Nor did You approve them without being Yourself worthy of them.
And would not accept them unless you were worthy of them
فَقُلْتَso You said اصْفَحُواpardon عَمَّنْthose who أَساءَdid wrong إلَيْكُمُto you
وعُودُواand return بِحِلْمٍwith forbearance إنْif بَداappeared مِنْكُمُfrom you جَهْلُfoolishness
So You said: “Pardon those who have wronged you,
So you said: forgive those who wronged you
And return to forbearance if foolishness emerges from you.”
And return with patience if ignorance appears from you
فَهَلْso is there لِجَهُولٍfor a foolish man خَافَhas feared صَعْبَthe severity of ذُنُوبِهِhis sins
لَدَيْكَwith You أَمانٌsafety مِنْكَfrom You أوor جَانِبٌa side سَهْلُgentle
So is there, for a foolish man who has feared the severity of his sins,
Does an ignorant one, who fears the difficulty of his sins before you,
Safety with You from You, or a gentle side?
Have safety from you, or an easy escape?
