لَوْلا ثَلاثٌ هُنَّ أَقْصَى الْمُنى

لَوْلا ثَلاثٌ هُنَّ أَقْصَى الْمُنى

ما كَانَ طُولُ العُمْرِ منْ قَصْدِي

ما كَانَ طُولُ العُمْرِ منْ قَصْدِي

Were it not for three things that are the highest of hopes,

Were it not for three things that are my utmost desire

a long life would not be my aim:

My life would not have been so long in goodly measure

نَشْرُ تَصانِيفِي لِنَفْعِ الوَرَى

نَشْرُ تَصانِيفِي لِنَفْعِ الوَرَى

بما حَوَتْ مِنْ خالِصِ الرُّشْدِ

بما حَوَتْ مِنْ خالِصِ الرُّشْدِ

publishing my writings for the benefit of humankind,

To spread my works for the benefit of mankind

through the pure guidance they contain;

Containing wisdom purely defined

وكَفُّ عُدْوانِ امْرِىءٍ ظالِمٍ

وكَفُّ عُدْوانِ امْرِىءٍ ظالِمٍ

أَنْحى عَلَى مُسْتَضْعَفِ الجَدِّ

أَنْحى عَلَى مُسْتَضْعَفِ الجَدِّ

and curbing the aggression of an oppressive man

To stop the oppression of the unjust aggressor

who has assailed one deemed weak in fortune;

Who attacks the rights of the helpless lesser

وَبَسْطُ عَدْلٍ في جَميعِ الوَرَى

وَبَسْطُ عَدْلٍ في جَميعِ الوَرَى

ماضٍ بِلا دَفْعٍ ولا رَدِّ

ماضٍ بِلا دَفْعٍ ولا رَدِّ

and spreading justice among all humankind,

To establish justice in every corner of earth

prevailing without hindrance or rejection.

Unfailing, unopposed since the day of my birth

فإنْ أَنَلْ هَذَا فَمِنْ فَضْلِ مَنْ

فإنْ أَنَلْ هَذَا فَمِنْ فَضْلِ مَنْ

يُعطي بلا حَدٍّ ولا عَدِّ

يُعطي بلا حَدٍّ ولا عَدِّ

So if I attain this, it is by the grace of the One

And if I attain these, it's by the grace of the One

who gives without limit or reckoning.
