صَدَعَ الْقُلوبَ فِراقُنا صَدْعا
Urge the mounts on toward the hills of Sana'a.
They urged the camel rider towards the dwellings of Raba
Our parting has rent hearts asunder.
Our separation has cracked the hearts with a crack

Urge the mounts, carrying us toward a city
They urged the camel with us to a country
That excels and is naturally pleasing to humankind.
That became harmonious and congenial to the inhabitants

Ah, how lovely Sana'a and its dwellers are!
O how excellent are the dwellings and its inhabitants
If saying 'How lovely Sana'a!' were of any use.
If the dwellings avail, excellent are its dwellings

O inhabitants of Sana'a, the clouds
Clouds of heaven pouring rain upon you.
Have not ceased pouring on you copiously

Say to the Imam: does he not feel compassion for one
Say to the Imam, does he not have mercy on one
Who has parted from loved ones and home?
Who has parted from loved ones and quarters

Why does he take us across the lands,
What is wrong with him taking us around the countries
With neither reason nor religious law to restrain him?
With no intellect that makes him understand nor law

A journey with no benefit accruing to
A journey without benefit that returns upon
Our faith or worldly life—without a doubt.
A religion or life no benefit to us absolutely
