قُلْtell لابْنِto the son of يَحْيَىYahya فَلْيَكُنْthen let him be عَالِماًaware
بِماof what لَدَيْناwe have مِنْof غَرامٍpassion دَخِيلْdeep-seated
Tell Ibn Yahya: let him be aware
Tell the son of Yahya, let him be aware
of the deep-seated passion within us.
Of the passionate love that dwells within us
إنْif كُنْتَyou are لاnot تَأْتِيyou come إلىto رَبْعِناour dwelling
فَحَسْبُناthen sufficient for us اللهُGod ونِعْمَand how excellent الوَكيلْthe guardian
If you do not come to our dwelling,
If you do not come to our dwellings
then God suffices us, and what an excellent guardian He is!
God suffices us, an excellent trustee
أوor كُنْتَyou had أَزْمَعْتَyou resolved عَلَىupon هَجْرِناabandoning us
فَهَجْرُناthen abandoning us لَيْسَis not بِهَجْرٍan abandonment جَمِيلْgraceful
Or if you have resolved to abandon us,
Or if you intended to abandon us
then abandoning us is no graceful abandonment.
Our abandonment is not a seemly one
