شَيْخَناour sheikh دُمْتَmay you remain فيin النَّعيمِbliss الْمُقِيمenduring
وَحَباكَand may He favor you الإلَهُGod بالتَّسْليمِwith salutations
Our sheikh, may you remain in enduring bliss,
Our elder, may you dwell in lasting bliss
And may God favor you with greetings of peace.
And may God endow you with serenity.
وكَفَىand suffices بالسَّلامِthe greeting مِنِّيfrom me رَسُولاًas a messenger
مُخْبِراًtelling عَنْof حَدِيثناour recent affairs والقَدِيمِand the old
A greeting from me suffices as a messenger,
My greetings are enough, o messenger -
Telling of our affairs, new and old.
Informing of our talk and days gone by.
إنْif تَكُنْyou are فيin الغَرامِpassionate love مِثْليlike me فإنِّيthen indeed I
رُبَّماsometimes بِتُّI spent the night سَاهِراًsleepless كالسَّلِيمِlike one bitten by a snake
If you are like me in love, then I
If you're in love like me, know I may stay
Have sometimes spent the night sleepless, like one bitten by a snake.
Awake through night, restless, sick with yearning.
