أَلاَtake heed! بَلِّغَاtell, you two عَنِّيon my behalf الحُسَيْنَal-Husayn بأَنَّنيthat I
أَلاَ بَلِّغَا عَنِّي الحُسَيْنَ بأَنَّني
لِرُؤْيَتِهِto see him صادٍthirsty مَشُوقٌyearning مُتَيَّمُenslaved by love
لِرُؤْيَتِهِ صادٍ مَشُوقٌ مُتَيَّمُ
O you two, tell al-Husayn on my behalf that I
Tell Hussein I long to see his face
am thirsty to see him, yearning and enslaved by love.
My heart yearns for his grace
لَعَلَّperhaps إلَهَthe God الخَلْقِof creation يَجْمَعُbrings together بَيْنناbetween us
لَعَلَّ إلَهَ الخَلْقِ يَجْمَعُ بَيْننا
عَلَىaccording to ماwhat نَشاwe wish فِيمَاin what يَشَاHe wills فَهوfor He أَكْرَمُmost generous
عَلَى ما نَشا فِيمَا يَشَا فَهو أَكْرَمُ
Perhaps the God of creation will bring us together
May God unite us one day
as we wish, in what He wills—for He is most generous.
