ياO مَعْرِباًspeaking correctly فيin قَوْلِهِhis speech لاحِناًerring
يا مَعْرِباً في قَوْلِهِ لاحِناً
بَيْنَamong الوَرَىhumankind فيin العَمَلِdeeds الصَّالِحِrighteous
بَيْنَ الوَرَى في العَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ
O you, correct in speech, yet erring
O you who are eloquent in speech and gentle in manner
Among humankind in righteous deeds,
Among people, engaged in righteous deeds
فَضَّmay break إلَهِيmy God فَاكَyour mouth ماnot هَكَذَاthus
فَضَّ إلَهِي فَاكَ ما هَكَذَا
يَصْنَعُacts رَاجِيone hoping for الْمَتْجَرِthe trade الرَّابِحِprofitable
يَصْنَعُ رَاجِي الْمَتْجَرِ الرَّابِحِ
May my God break your teeth! Not thus
My God, relieve me, for this is not how
Does one who hopes for profitable trade act.
