والْمُنْعِمينَ بسَيْبٍ يُخْجِلُ الدِّيما
O son of the noble chiefs and towering mountains of Mudar,
O son of valorous men and noble lineage from Mudar,
And of the benefactors whose bounty shames the steady rains.
Bestowed with generosity that would shame the most generous,
قَدْindeed دَلَّhas shown نَظْمُكَyour stringing (verse) للدُّرِّof the pearls الثّمينِprecious بِلاwithout

شَكٍّ بأَنَّكَ بَحْرٌ للعُلُومِ طَمَا
Your stringing of precious pearls has shown, beyond
Your refined poetry clearly points to you being
Doubt, that you are an overflowing sea of learning.
An ocean of knowledge, no doubt.

And you sought to voice reproach with gentleness;
You began gently admonishing me,
And I have erred by my absence; so bear with me generously.
Though I was at fault with my distance, so bear with me kindly.

For longing is measured and judged by longing;
Yearning is matched with yearning, this is the just measure,
So ruled the best of messengers and sages.
As decreed by the best of messengers and the wise.

Nor do I cast doubt through gradation, for he has ruled for
I have no doubts or suspicions, for they are
Univocity, through unity of genus.
Of one kind and against the unity of souls, as both have ruled.

And the affirmations of my affection for you have not been negated,
The reasons for my love of you have not been taken away
Nor has the bond of my love become severed from you.
Nor will the knot of my affection be severed from you.

Since my soul became devoted to you, I have not
My soul of precluding emptiness, which became binding.
Parted for fear of losing our connection.

I have not given up on my feelings for you
Turning away from you, nor have I consigned them to nothingness.
Or wished them away, not at all.

And our two figures have united in a pattern
Our forms have become harmonized in a way
Whose conclusions of love preclude barrenness.
That has affectionate results and prevents barrenness.
