O beauty of majesty and paragon of perfection,

And adornment of men, praiseworthy in character,

Foremost of the age at this present time,

Wondrous in eloquence, close companion of lofty virtues:

Have our days of Tashriq decreed

Our parting? O my people, and alas for me!

And our days of celebrating Eid—what ails them,

That they have brought us estrangement and mutual aversion?
