إنّ اللّقا أَفْضَلُ إنْ كانَ في

إنّ اللّقا أَفْضَلُ إنْ كانَ في

تَعْلِمِ عِلْمٍ لامْرِىءٍ مُسْلِمِ

تَعْلِمِ عِلْمٍ لامْرِىءٍ مُسْلِمِ

Indeed, meeting is preferable if it is for

Meeting is best when it's for learning

teaching knowledge to a Muslim,

Knowledge for a Muslim man,

أَوْ أَمْرِ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ النَّهْيِ عَنْ

أَوْ أَمْرِ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ النَّهْيِ عَنْ

مُنْكَرِ شَرْعٍ واضحٍ فاعْلَمِ

مُنْكَرِ شَرْعٍ واضحٍ فاعْلَمِ

or enjoining what is right, or forbidding

Or doing good, forbidding wrong

a clear wrong under religious law—know this;

As clear law has ordained.

أَوْ قُرْبَةٍ في الدّينِ أو مَقْصدٍ

أَوْ قُرْبَةٍ في الدّينِ أو مَقْصدٍ

يَأْتيكَ بَعْد الموت بالمغْنَمِ

يَأْتيكَ بَعْد الموت بالمغْنَمِ

or an act of religious devotion, or a purpose

Or kinship in religion, or a goal

that brings you gain after death.

That will profit you after death.

وإنْ تَلاقَى النّاسُ في غَيرِ ذا

وإنْ تَلاقَى النّاسُ في غَيرِ ذا

فاهْرُبْ إلى فُرْقَتِهِمْ تَسْلَمِ

فاهْرُبْ إلى فُرْقَتِهِمْ تَسْلَمِ

And if people meet for anything other than this,

But if people meet for other than this

then flee their company, and you will be safe.

Flee their partition, stay safe.

واعْلَمْ بأنَّ النِّيَّةَ الأَصْلُ في

واعْلَمْ بأنَّ النِّيَّةَ الأَصْلُ في

خَيْرٍ وشَرٍّ دُمْتَ في الأنْعُمِ

خَيْرٍ وشَرٍّ دُمْتَ في الأنْعُمِ

And know that intention is the foundation of

Know that intention is the root

good and evil—may you remain amid blessings.

Of good and evil, as long as you live.
