أُسائِلُ عَنْ أَنْسابِ قَوْمٍ عَرَفْتُهُمْ

أُسائِلُ عَنْ أَنْسابِ قَوْمٍ عَرَفْتُهُمْ

فَقِيلَ هُمُ أَحْفادُ مَنْ كُنْتُ أَعْرِفُ

فَقِيلَ هُمُ أَحْفادُ مَنْ كُنْتُ أَعْرِفُ

I ask about the ancestry of people I have come to know;

I ask about the ancestry of a people I once knew,

And I was told: they are the grandchildren of those I used to know.

And am told they are the descendants of those I was familiar with.
