اللهGod درexcellence (in a formula of praise) فتىa youth علاrose high
الله در فتى علا
وعلتand rose high علىabove الناسthe people جدودهhis forefathers
وعلت على الناس جدوده
God bless a youth who rose high,
and whose forefathers rose above all men.
يَاْتِيhe comes لِكُلِّto every مُحَقّقٍdiscerning scholar
يَاْتِي لِكُلِّ مُحَقّقٍ
عِنْدَduring الْجِدالِdebate بِماwith what يُفيدُهْbenefits him
عِنْدَ الْجِدالِ بِما يُفيدُهْ
He comes to every discerning scholar
in debate with what benefits him.
ياO بَدْرُBadr دُمْتَmay you endure لِكُلّfor every مَاthing that
يا بَدْرُ دُمْتَ لِكُلّ مَا
يَعْنيis of concern عَلَىupon فِكْريmy mind وُرُودُهْits coming
يَعْني عَلَى فِكْري وُرُودُهْ
O Badr, may you ever be there for every matter
whose coming to my mind concerns me.
فَلَقدْfor indeed ظَفِرْتَyou have attained مِنَof المعَاlofty honors (first part of المعالي)
فَلَقدْ ظَفِرْتَ مِنَ المعَا
لِيlofty honors (completion of المعالي) والْعُلُومِand learning بماwith what تُرِيدُهْyou desire it
لِي والْعُلُومِ بما تُرِيدُهْ
For you have attained, of lofty
honors and learning, whatever you desire.
