إذَاif كُنْتَyou are فيin عِلْمِthe science of الأُصولِtheological principles مُوافِقاًin agreement with
إذَا كُنْتَ في عِلْمِ الأُصولِ مُوافِقاً
بِعَقْلِكَwith your intellect قَوْلَthe teaching of الأَشْعَرِيِّal-Ash‘ari المسدّدِthe rightly guided
بِعَقْلِكَ قَوْلَ الأَشْعَرِيِّ المسدّدِ
If, in the science of theological principles, you agree
in your reasoning with the teaching of the rightly guided al-Ash‘ari,
وعامَلْتَand you deal with مَوْلاكَyour Lord الكَريمَthe Generous مُخالِصاًsincerely
وعامَلْتَ مَوْلاكَ الكَريمَ مُخالِصاً
بِقَوْلِaccording to the teaching of الإمامِthe imam الشّافِعيِّal-Shafi‘i المؤيّدِthe divinely aided
بِقَوْلِ الإمامِ الشّافِعيِّ المؤيّدِ
and deal sincerely with your generous Lord
according to the teaching of the divinely aided Imam al-Shafi‘i,
وأتْقَنْتَand you master حَرْفَthe reading of ابنِson of العَلاءِal-‘Ala مُجَوِّداًreciting with precision
وأتْقَنْتَ حَرْفَ ابنِ العَلاءِ مُجَوِّداً
ولمand not تَعْدُyou go beyond فيin الإعْرابgrammatical inflection رَأيَthe view of الْمُبرِّدِal-Mubarrid
ولم تَعْدُ في الإعْراب رَأيَ الْمُبرِّدِ
and master Ibn al-‘Ala’s reading, reciting with precision,
and do not go beyond al-Mubarrid’s view in grammatical inflection,
فأَنْتَthen you عَلَىupon الحَقِّthe truth الْمُبينِthe manifest مُوافِقٌin accord with
فأَنْتَ عَلَى الحَقِّ الْمُبينِ مُوافِقٌ
شَرِيعَةَthe law of خَيْرِthe best of المرْسَلِينَthe messengers مُحَمّدِMuhammad
شَرِيعَةَ خَيْرِ المرْسَلِينَ مُحَمّدِ
then you stand upon the manifest truth, in accord with
the law of the best of messengers, Muhammad.
