O adornment of time and eye of existence,

You have exchanged your closeness for rejection.

Why has that disposition changed in

one who preserves affection and honors pledges?

And if I say, “This rupture and severance are among

this stern one's habits,” objections arise:

for he is peerless among humankind

in honoring pledges, loyalty, and generosity.

It is said that the evil eye is real; so nothing

has struck my love but the envious one's eye.
