وأَسْعَفَني دَهْرِي بِكُلِّ مَطالِبي

وأَسْعَفَني دَهْرِي بِكُلِّ مَطالِبي

وصَيَّرَني في النَّاس حَيْثُ أريدُ

وصَيَّرَني في النَّاس حَيْثُ أريدُ

And fortune came to my aid in all my aspirations,

And my days have favored me with all I sought,

and placed me among the people wherever I wished.

and placed me among people where I wish to be.

وإنّ امْرَءاً نالَ الْمُنَى غَيْرَ ذَائِقٍ

وإنّ امْرَءاً نالَ الْمُنَى غَيْرَ ذَائِقٍ

لِمُرِّ هُوانٍ دُونَها لَسَعِيدُ

لِمُرِّ هُوانٍ دُونَها لَسَعِيدُ

Indeed, a man who attains his heart’s desires without tasting

And indeed, a man who has attained his desires without tasting

the bitterness of humiliation on the way to them is truly fortunate.

the bitterness of humiliation in their pursuit is truly fortunate.
