أَجَزْتُكَI have authorized you بابنَO son of السُّراةِthe noble men الأُولىwho
غَدَتْbecame لَهُمُfor them المكْرُماتُnoble deeds الشِّعاراthe hallmark
I have authorized you, O son of those noble men
I have rewarded you, O son of the eminent family,
For whom noble deeds became a hallmark.
Honors have become their motto,
وَصَارواand they became الصُّدورَthe foremost men (literally, breasts) وشُرّاحَهاand those who open them
ونالواand they attained برَغْمِdespite الْقِصارِthe lesser men الْقُصَارَىthe utmost
They became the foremost men and openers of hearts,
And they have become the breasts and their explainers,
And attained the utmost despite the lesser men.
And they have attained the utmost despite the shortcoming,
فَسَلْso ask بِهِمُabout them مُعْضِلاتِthe knotty problems of الْعُلُومthe sciences
وَسَلand ask بِهِمُabout them المثقلاتِthe weighty matters الكِبارَاthe great ones
So ask the sciences’ knotty problems about them,
So ask through them the problematic sciences,
And ask the great, weighty matters about them.
And ask through them the heavily laden elders,
سَقَىmay water اللهGod منof ضَمَدٍDamad مُوْطِناًa dwelling
أَقَالُواthey dwelt بِهِin it وأَقالُواand they pardoned الْعِثَاراthe missteps
May God water a dwelling in Damad,
May God water a loving abode,
Where they dwelt and pardoned missteps.
They unburdened it and unburdened adversity,
وجَادَand may drench الْحَيَاthe rain الْجَوْدُbountiful صَبَياSabya التيwhich

And may bountiful rain drench Sabya, which
And the life of the youth flowed generously
Swayed her side in pride because of them.
Who have inclined their kindness to pride through them,
لِوَفْدِfor the delegation of الْمَعالِيhigh attainments غدَتْshe became رِحْلَةٌa travel destination

For seekers of high attainments she became a destination,
For the delegation of sublime meanings, the journey has become
Through them, and a place of visitation for seekers of meanings.
Through them and for the delegation of meanings a shrine,
أَلاtake heed فَارُوِعَنّيso transmit from me الْعُلُومَthe sciences التيthat
I bestowed them upon you جَهْرَةًopenly أوor سَراراsecretly
Now, transmit on my authority the sciences that
Lo, awe me with the sciences which
I bestowed upon you openly or in secret.
I have given you openly or secretly,
فأنْتَfor you are الذيthe one who نَالَattained كُلَّevery الْمُنَىaspiration
شَباباًin youth وَصَارَand became الذيthe one who لاnot يُبارِىis rivaled
For you are the one who attained every aspiration
For you are the one who has attained all wishes,
In youth, and became one whom none can rival,
Youth and become unmatched,
ومنand one who قَصَّرَتْfell short عَنْof مَدَاهُhis reach الشُّيوخُthe elders

And whose reach the elders fell short of,
And the elders fell short of his extent,
Though his cheeks had not yet sprouted whiskers.
And the cheeks did not grow any excuses,
ولاand do not تَنْسَنِيforget me منْin صِلاَتِthe gifts of الدُّعاءِprayer

And do not forget me in your gifts of prayer,
And do not forget me from the prayer of supplication
When parting—may it never come!—calls aloud.
When separation calls out loud,
