وَإذَا ما الْمَرْءُ جَرَى طَلَقا

وَإذَا ما الْمَرْءُ جَرَى طَلَقا

مَجْداً وَعَلاَ شَرَفاً شَرُفا

مَجْداً وَعَلاَ شَرَفاً شَرُفا

And whenever a man races at full speed

When a man journeys forth with pride,

toward glory and surpasses noble men in honor,

Seeking glory, climbing high,

جَعَلتْ عِرْضاً مِنْهُ عَرَضا

جَعَلتْ عِرْضاً مِنْهُ عَرَضا

لِنِبَالِ أَذىً سُخْفاً سَخُفا

لِنِبَالِ أَذىً سُخْفاً سَخُفا

his reputation is made a target

His flaws become open targets

for arrows of harm, by fools acting out of folly.

For the slings and arrows of outrage.
