فيin مَعْقِلٍa stronghold صارَbecame النُّجومُthe stars لَهُfor it
في مَعْقِلٍ صارَ النُّجومُ لَهُ
كالعِقْدِlike a necklace مَشْدُوداًfastened عَلَىupon الْعُنقِthe neck
كالعِقْدِ مَشْدُوداً عَلَى الْعُنقِ
In a stronghold, the stars have become
In a stronghold, the stars became
Like a necklace fastened around its neck;
Like a necklace clasped round his neck.
وغَدَتْand became لَهُfor it كالكَشْحِlike a flank جائِلَةًdrifting
وغَدَتْ لَهُ كالكَشْحِ جائِلَةً
فيin الصَّدْرِthe breast مِنْهُof it سحائِبُclouds الأُفقِthe horizon
في الصَّدْرِ مِنْهُ سحائِبُ الأُفقِ
And there came to drift, like a flank,
And to him the planets seemed errant
Within its breast, the clouds of the horizon.
Clouds in his chest from the horizon.
