أَحييتَyou revived روحيَmy soul بِالصّوتِwith the voice الرّخيمِmellow وَماand what
أَحييتَ روحيَ بِالصّوتِ الرّخيمِ وَما
يَستَرقِصُmakes dance النايَthe flute أَوor يَستَنطِقُmakes speak العوداthe oud
يَستَرقِصُ النايَ أَو يَستَنطِقُ العودا
You revived my soul with the mellow voice and with what
You revived my soul with your gentle voice though
Makes the flute dance or makes the oud speak.
Neither pipe can relate nor lute can speak
وَأَنتَand you يوسُفُJoseph حُسناًin beauty لاno نَظيرَequal لَهُto him
وَأَنتَ يوسُفُ حُسناً لا نَظيرَ لَهُ
لَكِنَّbut صَوتكَyour voice يَبدوseems صَوتَthe voice of داوداDavid
لَكِنَّ صَوتكَ يَبدو صَوتَ داودا
And you are Joseph in beauty, with no equal;
You are Joseph, a beauty that has no peer
Yet your voice sounds like David’s.
Yet your voice seems the voice of David
