ظَلَمتَyou acted unjustly وَإِنَّand indeed الظّلمَinjustice فيin النّفسِthe soul كامِنٌlatent
ظَلَمتَ وَإِنَّ الظّلمَ في النّفسِ كامِنٌ
فجاهُكَso your standing يُبديهreveals it وعجزُكand your powerlessness يُخفيهِconceals it
فجاهُكَ يُبديه وعجزُك يُخفيهِ
You acted unjustly—though injustice lies latent in the soul;
You acted unjustly; indeed, injustice lies latent in the soul.
Your power reveals it, while your helplessness conceals it.
So your standing reveals it, and your powerlessness conceals it.
وَأَنتَwhile you ضَعيفٌweak كنتَyou used to تَظهَرappear صالِحاًrighteous
وَأَنتَ ضَعيفٌ كنتَ تَظهَر صالِحاً
وَإِنّكand indeed you ذوpossessing عَدلٍjustice لماfor what كنتَyou used to تُبديهِdisplay it
وَإِنّك ذو عَدلٍ لما كنتَ تُبديهِ
When you were weak, you used to appear righteous,
While you were weak, you used to appear righteous,
And seem a man of justice, because of what you displayed.
And indeed just, judging by what you used to display.
