بِنتي الحُسن وَكلّاً صنتُها
When my reproacher saw me in love
When my censor saw me in love
with the two daughters of beauty—and I guarded each—
With a beauty whose charm I extolled,
قالَhe said ماwhat هاتانِthese two أَومَأتُI gestured لَهُto him

هَذِهِ عَيني وَهَذي أُختُها
he said, “What are these two?” I gestured to him:
I pointed to this, to that, as he stared,
“This is my eye, and this is her sister.”
This is my eye, and this is its sister.
