ذا ضَريحُ الشَّريفِ سعدِ المَعاني
كَعبةِKaaba الفَقهjurisprudence وهوَand he قطبُpole العلومِthe sciences
كَعبةِ الفَقه وهوَ قطبُ العلومِ
This is the tomb of the noble one, the joy of meanings,
This is the tomb of the noble master of meanings, Sa'd al-Ma'ani
the Kaaba of jurisprudence and the pole of the sciences—
The Kaaba of jurisprudence, the Pole of the sciences
أَحمَدAhmad البربيرal-Barbir الإِمامِthe imam خليّاًfree
أَحمَد البربير الإِمامِ خليّاً
عَنof نَظيرٍa peer فيin النثرِprose والمنظومِand verse
عَن نَظيرٍ في النثرِ والمنظومِ
Ahmad al-Barbir, the imam, without
Ahmad al-Barbari the Imam, unique
a peer in prose and verse.
Among peers in prose and verse
مُذْwhen دَعاهُHe called him الكَريمthe Generous One لَبّىhe answered the call مُجيباًresponding
مُذْ دَعاهُ الكَريم لَبّى مُجيباً
فَكَساهُso He clothed him بِحلّةِin a robe التكريمِhonor
فَكَساهُ بِحلّةِ التكريمِ
When the Generous One called him, he answered the summons,
When the Benevolent called him, he obediently responded
so He clothed him in a robe of honor,
So He clothed him in the garment of honor
وَحَباهُand He bestowed on him الرِّضاapproval وَرفقةَand companionship طهَTaha
وَحَباهُ الرِّضا وَرفقةَ طهَ
جَدِّهhis forefather المُصطفىthe Chosen One النبيِّthe Prophet الكريمِthe noble
جَدِّه المُصطفى النبيِّ الكريمِ
and bestowed on him His approval and the companionship of Taha,
And granted him acceptance and the companionship of Taha
his forefather, the Chosen One, the noble Prophet.
His grandfather, the noble Prophet
فيin جِنانِgardens الخُلودِeternity حَلَّhe settled مُقيماًabiding
في جِنانِ الخُلودِ حَلَّ مُقيماً
طيبَpleasant العَيشِlife فيin جِوارِnearness الرّحيمِthe Merciful One
طيبَ العَيشِ في جِوارِ الرّحيمِ
In the gardens of eternity he settled to abide,
In the gardens of eternity he settled, residing
enjoying a pleasant life beside the Merciful One.
With a good life near the Merciful
كَمhow many لَهُfor him مَنزلٌa dwelling هناكَthere رَحيبٌspacious
كَم لَهُ مَنزلٌ هناكَ رَحيبٌ
فيهin it حورٌhouris تسرُّdelight طرفَgaze المقيمِthe dweller
فيه حورٌ تسرُّ طرفَ المقيمِ
Many a spacious dwelling is his there,
How spacious is his abode there, how vast
where houris delight the dweller's gaze.
Wherein are maidens that delight the dweller
وَمِنَand of الدُرِّpearl فيهin it أرِّخrecord the date قبابٌdomes
وَمِنَ الدُرِّ فيه أرِّخ قبابٌ
وقصورٌand palaces فيin جنّةٍa garden ونعيمِand bliss
وقصورٌ في جنّةٍ ونعيمِ
And therein are domes of pearl—record the date—
And therein domes embroidered with pearls
and palaces in Paradise and bliss.
And palaces in a Garden of bliss and bounty
