ذاthis man شَهيدٌa martyr لِثَراهُfor his grave's soil
ذا شَهيدٌ لِثَراهُ
وابلُa downpour الرّضوانdivine favor يَسقيwaters
وابلُ الرّضوان يَسقي
This is a martyr; may his grave's soil
This is a martyr in his grave
be watered by a downpour of divine favor.
The rain of Divine Mercy waters him
وَسَميٌّand a namesake لِرَسولٍof a messenger
وَسَميٌّ لِرَسولٍ
جاءَناcame to us فيin دينِa faith حقِّtruth
جاءَنا في دينِ حقِّ
And a namesake of a messenger
And a protector of the Messenger
who came to us with a faith of truth.
Who came to us with the religion of truth
مِنfrom بَنيthe sons of العيتانيal-ʿItani مَنْthose who هُمthey are
مِن بَني العيتاني مَنْ هُم
لِكَمالِهfor his perfection أَهلpeople of سَبقِprecedence
لِكَمالِه أَهل سَبقِ
Of the Banu al-ʿItani, who are
From the tribe of Aytani are those
foremost in the perfection he embodies.
Perfect in merit, foremost
لاذَsought refuge بِاللَّهِin God تَعالىexalted is He
لاذَ بِاللَّهِ تَعالى
مِنfrom لَظىa blaze لَمnot تَكit was تُبقيsparing
مِن لَظى لَم تَك تُبقي
He sought refuge in God Most High
He took refuge in Allah the Exalted
from a blaze that spared nothing.
From intense heat that left naught
حلَّsettled مِنfrom حيثُwhere وأرِّخand record the date
حلَّ مِن حيثُ وأرِّخ
لاذtook refuge فيin مقعدِa seat of صِدقِtruth
لاذ في مقعدِ صِدقِ
He settled there—and mark the date:
Settle where you wish and date
He took refuge in a seat of truth.
