هَذا محيّاهُ إِذ دارَ العِذارُ به

هَذا محيّاهُ إِذ دارَ العِذارُ به

بَدرٌ وَهالتُه في رُؤيَةِ البصرِ

This face of his, now that cheek-down has encircled it,

This is his greeting as reproach circulated about him

is a full moon and its halo to the beholding eye.

فَجَوهَرُ النورِ فيه يا مُؤرّخه

يَقومُ وَالمِسكُ أَمسى هالةَ القمَرِ

So the essence of light within it, O its chronicler,

So the essence of light in it, O historian,

abides, and musk has become the moon’s halo.

Rises while musk has become the moon's aura
