الغَربُthe west يَهوىloves الصّومَfasting بَلindeed لَمdid not يَزَلْcease
الغَربُ يَهوى الصّومَ بَل لَم يَزَلْ
مِنfor صَوْمِهِits fasting الدَّهرَthroughout all time عَلىin a state of حِرْصِeagerness
مِن صَوْمِهِ الدَّهرَ عَلى حِرْصِ
The west loves fasting; indeed, it has always been
The West loves to fast, but never ceased
Eager to keep its fast throughout all time.
Throughout time, to greedily fast.
أَنعِمhow excellent بِهِit is (literally, with it) مِنas a صائِمٍone who fasts فِطرُهُits breaking of the fast
أَنعِم بِهِ مِن صائِمٍ فِطرُهُ
دَوماًalways مِنَof الشَّمسِthe sun علىon قرصِdisk; round loaf
دَوماً مِنَ الشَّمسِ على قرصِ
What a fine faster it is! Its breaking of the fast
Look at its fasting one, whose breakfast
Is always on the sun’s disk.
Is ever the baking sun's disk.
