لَهاto it القَمرُthe moon الزّاهيradiant بِجنحِbeneath the wing of الدّجىdarkness يَجريcourses
لَها القَمرُ الزّاهي بِجنحِ الدّجى يَجري
The sky of the worlds, where the Pleiades is accompanied
The sky of the world where Pleiades shine
by the radiant moon, coursing beneath the wing of darkness,
The cheerful moon runs with the wings of night
كَعَبدٍlike a slave بَداappeared فيin كَفِّهhis palm طَبَرٌan axe لَهُbelonging to him
كَعَبدٍ بَدا في كَفِّه طَبَرٌ لَهُ
لِكَيso that يَحرسَhe may guard العُنقودَthe cluster مِنfrom ثَعلَبِthe fox of الفَجرِdawn
لِكَي يَحرسَ العُنقودَ مِن ثَعلَبِ الفَجرِ
like a slave with his axe visible in his palm,
Like a slave whose palms show the morning glow
to guard the cluster from the fox of dawn.
That he may guard the star cluster from dawn's fox
