تَصارَعَwrestled with one another القومُthe people بِقُربِnear دارِهاher house
تَصارَعَ القومُ بِقُربِ دارِها
فَالتَفَتتthen she turned بِآخرِwith the outer edge of الأَحداقِthe eyes
فَالتَفَتت بِآخرِ الأَحداقِ
The people wrestled near her house.
The people fought near her abode
Then she turned, glancing from the corners of her eyes.
She glanced back with her eyes' farthest reach
فَالقَومُso the people صَرعىfallen slain قَدindeed غَدواthey became مِنfrom لَحظِهاher glance
فَالقَومُ صَرعى قَد غَدوا مِن لَحظِها
قُلتُI said هُناhere مَصارِعُplaces of death العشّاقِthe lovers
قُلتُ هُنا مَصارِعُ العشّاقِ
So the people had fallen slain by her glance.
And the fighters fell from her gaze, felled
I said, "Here are the places where lovers perish."
I said: Here lie the battlefield of lovers
