غابَhas gone الحَبيبُthe beloved فَقَدso indeed جاءَcame الكَرىslumber مُقَليmy eyes
غابَ الحَبيبُ فَقَد جاءَ الكَرى مُقَلي
فَقَامَso rose فيin طَردِهِdriving it away الأجفانthe eyelids وَالحدقُand the pupils
فَقَامَ في طَردِهِ الأجفان وَالحدقُ
The beloved has gone, so slumber has come to my eyes;
The beloved is gone, so sorrow has come to stay with me
so the eyelids and pupils rose to drive it away.
In his absence my eyelids and pupils are active
ماnot كانَwas جَفنيmy eyelid لِرُؤياat the sight of الحِبِّthe beloved مُنطَبِقاًclosed
ما كانَ جَفني لِرُؤيا الحِبِّ مُنطَبِقاً
فَحينَso when أَنthat لاnot يَراهُit sees him كَيفَhow يَنطَبِقُdoes it close
فَحينَ أَن لا يَراهُ كَيفَ يَنطَبِقُ
My eyelid would not close at the sight of the beloved;
My eyelids were not meant to be closed to the vision of love
so when it does not see him, how can it close?
So how can they close when he is not here to be seen?
