فَبِئسَ الَّذي يُعطي بِمَنٍّ وَبِالأَذى

فَبِئسَ الَّذي يُعطي بِمَنٍّ وَبِالأَذى

فَيبطلُ ما أَعطى وَيَفسُد ما أسدَى

فَيبطلُ ما أَعطى وَيَفسُد ما أسدَى

So wretched is he who gives, reminding others of his favors and causing hurt.

Wretched is he who gives with reproach and harm,

Thus what he gave becomes void, and what he bestowed is spoiled.

Thus nullifying what he gave, corrupting what he bestowed.

تَصَدَّقْ وَلا تَمنن ولا تُؤذِ في العطا

تَصَدَّقْ وَلا تَمنن ولا تُؤذِ في العطا

وَإِنْ فاتَ مِنكَ المالُ تَكتسب الحَمدا

وَإِنْ فاتَ مِنكَ المالُ تَكتسب الحَمدا

Give in charity; do not remind others of your favors or cause hurt in giving.

Give alms without reproaching, give without causing hurt,

And even if wealth leaves you, you earn praise.

If you lack wealth, you will earn praise.
