زارَت بِلَيلٍ شَديدِ الغَيمِ مُظلِمهُ

زارَت بِلَيلٍ شَديدِ الغَيمِ مُظلِمهُ

في أَوّلِ الشّهرِ لا نَجمٌ ولا قمرُ

في أَوّلِ الشّهرِ لا نَجمٌ ولا قمرُ

She visited on a dark night thick with clouds,

She visited in a night of heavy clouded darkness,

At the month's beginning, with neither star nor moon.

At the beginning of the month, no stars and no moon.

أَرادَتِ السّترَ لا يَدري بِنا أَحدٌ

أَرادَتِ السّترَ لا يَدري بِنا أَحدٌ

فَالكَونُ مِن حُسنِها قَد ضاءَ يَزدَهِرُ

فَالكَونُ مِن حُسنِها قَد ضاءَ يَزدَهِرُ

She sought concealment, so no one would know of us;

She wanted to be veiled, no one knows about us,

Yet the universe had lit up with her beauty, shining bright.

But the universe shone and blossomed due to her beauty.

فَشامَتِ النّاسَ هَذا الضّوء فاِنتَبَهوا

فَشامَتِ النّاسَ هَذا الضّوء فاِنتَبَهوا

ظَنُّوا النّهارَ بَدا فَاِهتاجَتِ الفِكرُ

ظَنُّوا النّهارَ بَدا فَاِهتاجَتِ الفِكرُ

The people saw this light and awoke;

The people were awakened by this light,

They thought day had dawned, and their thoughts were stirred.

Thinking it was dawn, their thoughts were delighted.

فَأَدرَكوا الحالَ لا تَخفى حَقيقَتُهُ

فَأَدرَكوا الحالَ لا تَخفى حَقيقَتُهُ

فَما اِستَتَرنا وَلَكِن قَد فَشا الخَبرُ

فَما اِستَتَرنا وَلَكِن قَد فَشا الخَبرُ

So they grasped the situation; its truth could not be hidden.

They realized what was happening could not be hidden,

So we did not stay concealed; instead, the news had spread.

We did not hide, but the news had spread.
