Pour down, my tears, pour down,
My tears flowing grievingly
And water all the earth.
Watering the earth abundantly
أَماhave … not? عَلِمتِyou learned بِرُزْءٍof a calamity
قَدindeed صَيَّرَmade العَينَthe eye عَمياblind
Have you not learned of a calamity
Don't you know of an adversity
That has made the eye blind?
That has blinded the eyes completely

A wise, generous man has perished,
A dear friend, so generous
Who revived noble virtues, most modest of men;
Revived all virtues, made them live

Among the noblest of people in lineage,
Of the noblest people by origin
Among the finest of people in attire:
And the best of people by quality

Yahya, brother of virtues,
The brother of all merits lives
Whose understanding was revelation;
He whose wisdom was revelation
مَنْwhose ذكرُهُhis remembrance ليسdoes not يَفنىfade away

Whose remembrance never fades,
His mention does not vanish
Nor was he ever a forgotten thing.
Nor did time make him forgotten

Whoever lives on in remembrance has not died:
One who lives by his memory hasn't died
Glad tidings! That is, Yahya has not died.
Good news, oh one who hasn't died lives
سُقياًmay it be watered لِقَبرٍfor a grave حَواهheld him
سُقياًwatering لهfor it ثمthen سُقياwatering
May the grave that holds him be watered;
Watered be the grave that contained him
May it be watered, then watered again.
Watered be it, again watered

Gardens have indeed called him,
Indeed, he was called by gardens
So toward them he went in haste.
To which he walked striving
إِذwhen ماتَhe died أرَّختI recorded the date كَهلاin middle age
بِجنَّةِin the garden الخُلدِof eternity يحيَىhe lives
When he died in middle age, I marked the date:
When he died, fate chronicled
In the garden of eternity, Yahya lives.
That in the Garden of Eternity he lives
