يا شَمسَ مَجدٍ بِها للمَجدِ تَأبيدُ

يا شَمسَ مَجدٍ بِها للمَجدِ تَأبيدُ

وَلِلمَفاخِرِ تَخليدٌ وَتأييدُ

وَلِلمَفاخِرِ تَخليدٌ وَتأييدُ

O sun of glory, through which glory is made eternal,

O sun of glory, by which glory is made eternal,

And glorious deeds are immortalized and upheld.

And for the eminent, perpetuation and support.

وَضَوؤُها المَجدُ وَالعلياءُ مَطلعُها

وَضَوؤُها المَجدُ وَالعلياءُ مَطلعُها

وَبُرجها العزُّ لا يَعدوه تشييدُ

وَبُرجها العزُّ لا يَعدوه تشييدُ

Its light is glory, and eminence is its rising-place;

Its light is glory, its rising place sublimity,

Its mansion is honor; no lofty structure surpasses it.

Its zodiac is honor, which no building can transcend.

أَبشِر عَليَّ الذُّرى جَذلان ذا فرحٍ

أَبشِر عَليَّ الذُّرى جَذلان ذا فرحٍ

فَأَنتَ بِالسّعدِ مِن مَولاكَ موعودُ

فَأَنتَ بِالسّعدِ مِن مَولاكَ موعودُ

Rejoice, O you of lofty summits, jubilant and full of joy;

Rejoice, my heart, with delight, you who are promised

For your Lord has promised you good fortune.

Good fortune from your Lord, and with it contentment.

أَبشِر بِنَجلٍ مِنَ العَلياءِ مولدهُ

أَبشِر بِنَجلٍ مِنَ العَلياءِ مولدهُ

عَلَيهِ ظلُّ العُلى وَالمَجد مَمدودُ

عَلَيهِ ظلُّ العُلى وَالمَجد مَمدودُ

Rejoice in a son whose birth springs from eminence;

Rejoice at a son born of the exalted,

Over him the shade of eminence and glory is spread.

Upon him the shade of loftiness and glory is cast.

أَتى عَلى عَطشٍ بَعدَ الإِياسِ وَقَد

أَتى عَلى عَطشٍ بَعدَ الإِياسِ وَقَد

وافى بِمَولدهِ عيدٌ وَتَعييدُ

وافى بِمَولدهِ عيدٌ وَتَعييدُ

He came amid thirst, after despair, and indeed

He came after despair of fertility, and

With his birth came a feast day and celebration.

His birth has brought about a feast and renewal.

يَربو رَضيع المَعالي غَير مُنفَطِمٍ

يَربو رَضيع المَعالي غَير مُنفَطِمٍ

مَحضون مَجدٍ وَفيهِ المَجد مسعودُ

مَحضون مَجدٍ وَفيهِ المَجد مسعودُ

He grows, a nursling of noble virtues, unweaned,

The infant of noble traits is still suckling,

A ward of glory, in whom glory finds good fortune.

Nurtured in glory, and in him glory is blessed.

في مَهدِ عِزٍّ لَهُ العَلياءُ خادِمة

في مَهدِ عِزٍّ لَهُ العَلياءُ خادِمة

وَفيهِ تَحيا العُلى وَالغرّ والجودُ

وَفيهِ تَحيا العُلى وَالغرّ والجودُ

In a cradle of honor, eminence is his handmaid;

In a cradle of honor the exalted are his servants,

And in him, eminence, the illustrious, and generosity live on.

And in it survive sublimity, pride, and generosity.

وَفي ثُريّا العُلى وَالعزّ أَرّخه

وَفي ثُريّا العُلى وَالعزّ أَرّخه

بِالجدّ بِالسّعدِ هَذا البدرُ مَولودُ

بِالجدّ بِالسّعدِ هَذا البدرُ مَولودُ

And among the Pleiades of eminence and honor, record his birth-date:

And in the constellation of sublimity and honor he recorded him,

With good fortune, with felicity, this full moon is born.

With excellence, good fortune - this full moon is born.

يَحيا سَعيداً طَويلَ العُمر في نِعَمٍ

يَحيا سَعيداً طَويلَ العُمر في نِعَمٍ

وَصيتهُ الدّهرَ مَمدوحٌ وَمَحمودُ

وَصيتهُ الدّهرَ مَمدوحٌ وَمَحمودُ

May he live happily, long-lived amid blessings,

May he live happily for long in prosperity,

And may his renown be praised and commended through all time.

His reputation through time praised and lauded.

مُبارَكُ الإِسمِ مَيمون نَقيبتهُ

مُبارَكُ الإِسمِ مَيمون نَقيبتهُ

وَاليمنُ في وَجهِهِ بِالخَيرِ مَعقودُ

وَاليمنُ في وَجهِهِ بِالخَيرِ مَعقودُ

Blessed is his name, auspicious his disposition,

Blessed of name, auspicious his horoscope,

And in his face, good fortune is intertwined with goodness.

And felicity attached to his face with good.

يُحبى بِحَظٍّ سَعيدٍ لا مِثالَ لَهُ

يُحبى بِحَظٍّ سَعيدٍ لا مِثالَ لَهُ

وَمِنه تفلقُ في الدّهرِ الجلاميدُ

وَمِنه تفلقُ في الدّهرِ الجلاميدُ

He is endowed with happy fortune beyond compare,

He is endowed with a happy fate unlike any other,

And by it, through the ages, boulders are cleft.

And through him the treasures of time are split open.

تَراه جدّاً وَجَدّ الجَدِّ يَرتَعُ في

تَراه جدّاً وَجَدّ الجَدِّ يَرتَعُ في

رَغيدِ عَيشٍ وَلا يَعروهُ تَنكيدُ

رَغيدِ عَيشٍ وَلا يَعروهُ تَنكيدُ

May you see him a grandfather, and a grandfather's grandfather, reveling in

You see him earnest, earnest in his earnestness, he grazes

A life of ease, with no vexation befalling him.

In pleasant living, and no sorrow troubles him.

وَالحَمدُ للَّهِ ذي الآلاءِ جادَ بِهِ

وَالحَمدُ للَّهِ ذي الآلاءِ جادَ بِهِ

وَفيهِ قَد صارَ لِلأَفراحِ تَجديدُ

وَفيهِ قَد صارَ لِلأَفراحِ تَجديدُ

And praise be to God, possessor of blessings, who generously gave him,

Thanks be to God, bountiful, who provided him,

And through him, joys have indeed been renewed.

And through him occasions for joy became renewed.

وَهَذهِ نِعمَةٌ جَلّت وَحقَّ لَها

وَهَذهِ نِعمَةٌ جَلّت وَحقَّ لَها

شُكرٌ عَلَينا نُواليهِ وَتَحميدُ

شُكرٌ عَلَينا نُواليهِ وَتَحميدُ

And this is a mighty blessing; to it is rightly due

This is a sublime blessing, and it is right for it

Our unceasing gratitude and praise.

That we repay it with gratitude and praise.

فَاِهنأ بِهِ وارِداً أَحلى الهَنا فَرحاً

فَاِهنأ بِهِ وارِداً أَحلى الهَنا فَرحاً

إِنّ الهَنا مَورد حال وَمورودُ

إِنّ الهَنا مَورد حال وَمورودُ

So rejoice in him, joyfully coming to drink of the sweetest bliss;

So congratulate yourself on the sweetest joy in coming to it,

For bliss is a sweet and frequented watering place.

Since joy is the destination of a situation, and of one brought.

قَرير عَينٍ وَمسرور الفُؤادِ بِهِ

قَرير عَينٍ وَمسرور الفُؤادِ بِهِ

وَضِدّك الدّهر مَقهومٌ وَمضهودُ

وَضِدّك الدّهر مَقهومٌ وَمضهودُ

Your eye at peace and your heart gladdened by him,

Pleasant of eye and gladdened of heart through him,

And your foe forever subdued and oppressed.

While your counterpart, time, is dejected and suppressed.

لا زِلتُما الدّهرَ في خَيرٍ وَعافيةٍ

لا زِلتُما الدّهرَ في خَيرٍ وَعافيةٍ

ما قامَ طَيرٌ عَلى الأَغصانِ غرّيدُ

ما قامَ طَيرٌ عَلى الأَغصانِ غرّيدُ

May you both remain forever in goodness and well-being,

You will remain for all time in prosperity and wellness,

As long as a tuneful bird perches on the boughs,

As long as a bird alights on branches and warbles.

ما بانَ نَجمٌ وَما هبّت نَسيمُ صبا

ما بانَ نَجمٌ وَما هبّت نَسيمُ صبا

ما اِهتَزَّ غُصن بِها في الرّوضِ أملودُ

ما اِهتَزَّ غُصن بِها في الرّوضِ أملودُ

As long as a star appears and an east-wind breeze blows,

As long as a star appears, the breeze of morn blows,

As long as a supple bough sways with it in the garden,

A branch in the garden sways, bent with it.

ما الفَتحُ أَنشَدَ جَذلاناً يُهنّئُكم

ما الفَتحُ أَنشَدَ جَذلاناً يُهنّئُكم

يا شَمس مَجدٍ بِها لِلمَجدِ تأبيدُ

يا شَمس مَجدٍ بِها لِلمَجدِ تأبيدُ

As long as al-Fath recites joyfully, congratulating you:

As long as good fortune recites a poem congratulating you,

O sun of glory, through which glory is made eternal!

O sun of glory, by which glory is made eternal.
