ياO أَيّهاyou (vocative) البَحرُthe sea الّذيwhich مَلأَتْhas filled جَلاstart of 'his majesty'
يا أَيّها البَحرُ الّذي مَلأَتْ جَلا
لَتُهend of 'his majesty' عُيونيmy eyes وَالحَشاand the breast وَفُؤاديand my heart
لَتُه عُيوني وَالحَشا وَفُؤادي
O sea, whose majesty has filled
O sea that has filled my eyes and heart
my eyes, my breast, and my heart.
With your beauty and grace!
ياO دَوحَةَgreat spreading tree المَجدِglory الّتيwhich غَرستwas planted بِهِin it
يا دَوحَةَ المَجدِ الّتي غَرست بِهِ
وَلِظلّهاand for its shade مدّتwas spread عَلىover الأمجادِthe illustrious
وَلِظلّها مدّت عَلى الأمجادِ
O great tree of glory, planted within it,
O palm tree of glory that planted within it
and spread over the illustrious to cast its shade.
Triumph, and spread its shade over glories.
لاmay ... not اِنفَكَّcease عِزّكyour glory فيin العُلىthe heights يُبنىbe built عَلىupon
لا اِنفَكَّ عِزّك في العُلى يُبنى عَلى
شَرَفِnobility السّعودِgood fortunes بِأَحسنِwith the finest الأسعادِblessings of fortune
شَرَفِ السّعودِ بِأَحسنِ الأسعادِ
May your glory in the heights ever be built upon
Your honor shall not cease being built
noble good fortune, with the finest blessings.
Upon the nobility of Saud with the best of fortunes.
أَهدَيتَنيyou gifted me دُرّاًpearls ثَميناًprecious فاخراًsplendid
أَهدَيتَني دُرّاً ثَميناً فاخراً
فيin حُسنِbeauty نَظمٍverse طيّبsweet الإِنشادِrecitation
في حُسنِ نَظمٍ طيّب الإِنشادِ
You gave me precious, splendid pearls,
You gifted me a precious, luxurious pearl
in beautiful verse, sweet to recite,
In beautiful, melodious verse.
مِنfrom دُرِّكyour pearls المَكنونِconcealed فيin صَدَفِshells البَلاstart of 'eloquence'
مِن دُرِّك المَكنونِ في صَدَفِ البَلا
غَةِend of 'eloquence' وَالبديعand rhetorical artistry فَفقتso you surpassed قسّQuss إِياديal-Iyadi
غَةِ وَالبديع فَفقت قسّ إِيادي
from your pearls concealed in the shells of eloquence
From your hidden gems in the shell of eloquence and rhetoric
and rhetorical artistry—thus you surpassed Quss al-Iyadi.
You opened my clenched hands.
لاmay ... not فُضَّbe broken فوكَyour mouth العذبsweet لاmay ... not عاشَlive الّذيthe one who
لا فُضَّ فوكَ العذب لا عاشَ الّذي
إِيّاكَyou (object) يَجفوhe shuns لاmay ... not اِحتظىattain بِمرادِwith a desired outcome
إِيّاكَ يَجفو لا اِحتظى بِمرادِ
May your sweet mouth never be broken; may he not live who
May your fresh sweet water not run out, nor the one who
shuns you; may he never attain his desire.
Turns away from you live, or attain what he hopes for.
وَاِسلَمand stay safe وَدُمand live on فيthrough الدّهرِtime ناعِمَenjoying ease عيشَةٍa life
وَاِسلَم وَدُم في الدّهرِ ناعِمَ عيشَةٍ
تَخلوis free مِنَof الأَعداءِenemies وَالأَضدادِand adversaries
تَخلو مِنَ الأَعداءِ وَالأَضدادِ
And stay safe, and live on through time in a life of ease,
And may you live in peace forever in this life
free of enemies and adversaries.
