يا لِحية عَظُمَت في وَجهِ صاحِبها
كَثيفةthick خَبثتhas grown foul شَنعاءhideous قَدindeed قَبحتhas grown ugly
كَثيفة خَبثت شَنعاء قَد قَبحت
O beard, grown enormous on its owner's face,
O beard that grew on its owner's face
Thick, grown foul and hideous—indeed grown ugly!
Thick and tangled, ugly in its heinousness
لَوif النّجاساتthe impurities كانَتwere أَبحُراًseas وُضِعَتwere placed
لَو النّجاسات كانَت أَبحُراً وُضِعَت
فيinto تِلكُمُthat (addressing you all) اللّحيةthe beard الشّنعاءthe hideous ماnot طفحتoverflowed
في تِلكُمُ اللّحية الشّنعاء ما طفحت
If filth were seas that were placed
If all the world's filth were a single sea
Into that hideous beard, they would not overflow.
In that odious beard it would overflow
