Indeed, you rose for God, sparing no lives

of tyrants or those who strayed from the path.

You fought for God against a people gone astray and blind

to the sight of truth, with its dawn-light and radiance.

You were granted a mighty victory by Him, in which were left

Banu al-Nusayr in the fetters of hardship and distress.

You waged earnest war against them in their homelands,

so you returned with victory, shining with joy.

And you were created to raid them and kill them,

given power over their spirits and lives.

And with your sword, how many necks you encircled

with a carnelian collar in place of a necklace of dahaj.

And from your spear you made their livers drink

the poison of a thrust, mingled with pure death.

You hurled against them an army like lions, which began

surging in war and battle like deep seas.

    فَمِنهُمُ كلُّ لَيثٍ بِالهَلاكِ فجي

    And when it pounced upon them, it annihilated their lions;

so every lion among them was stricken with destruction.

    قَطَّعتَ أَرؤُسَهم بِالذّبحِ في الودجِ

    You humbled their noblest and destroyed their souls;

you severed their heads, slaughtering them at the jugular.

    أَذهَبتَ بَهجَتَهم بِالأَبيضِ البهجِ

    You broke their might and weakened their strength;

you took away their joy with the gleaming white sword.

    أَطفَأتَ نارَهُمُ حَتّى مِنَ السرجِ

    You felled their trees and ruined their home;

you quenched their fire, even that of their lamps.

You orphaned their children and widowed their women,

so they fell into hardship after ease and relief.

You raided them three times and were granted victory in them,

and your victory wafted as perfume of sweet fragrance.

And had they taken heed of what preceded this,

they would not have fought you, nor been among the rabble.

In Ramadan you made a feast of their slaughter,

and in it you fasted from sparing lives.

You truly sacrificed them in it, and then said:

"God is greatest!"—aloud, with sincere utterance.

And toward Acre you sent their heads,

making pilgrimage to it—one of the finest pilgrimages.

With their blood you watered a land that had thirsted,

and the fiercest parching heat had afflicted it in its thirst.

In it you polished the white swords when they had rusted,

and in it you quenched the spear's blazing heat.

With their flesh you entertained the wild beasts, feeding them,

and said, "O wild beast, come forward, rise, come here, and come!"

O lion—may his grasping paws never cease

reaching to plunge into skulls and gulfs.

Likewise, may his argument endure throughout time

against his enemies, with swords and proofs.

Likewise, may the banners of his victory remain

unfurled for conquest throughout all the years.

I congratulate you, O nobly born son of glory,

on the blessing of victory over reckless enemies,

and the blessing of triumph and support, gaining

a fine reward and release from burden and distress,

and on your joyful return now to your homelands,

with your breast opened wide, without constriction or distress,

in a procession of glory, with exalted honor serving it,

and the star of good fortune rising above it in radiance.

Remain safe and live on in happiness and good health,

with peace of mind, free of every care,

as long as a branch sways and the east wind's breeze blows,

as long as the doves sing, giving forth the loveliest song,

as long as the garden blooms and flowers therein offer praise

upon the hills, with the tongue of perfume and fragrance.
