إِذاif الشّعراءُthe poets قَدalready مَنَحوكthey bestowed upon you مَدحاًpraise
إِذا الشّعراءُ قَد مَنَحوك مَدحاً
فَلاthen do not تَندَمregret إِذاif كَثُرَbecame abundant العَطاءُthe giving
فَلا تَندَم إِذا كَثُرَ العَطاءُ
If the poets have bestowed praise upon you,
If poets lavish praise on you,
Then do not regret it if your giving is abundant.
Do not regret when gifts pour forth.
فَإِنّfor indeed المَالَwealth قَدmay يَفنىperish وَيَبلىand wear away
فَإِنّ المَالَ قَد يَفنى وَيَبلى
وَيَبقىand endures الدّهرthrough time لاdoes not يَفنىperish الثّناءُpraise
وَيَبقى الدّهر لا يَفنى الثّناءُ
For wealth may perish and wear away,
For wealth may vanish and decay,
And praise endures through time, never perishing.
But praise endures and fades not away.
