ماnot كُنتُI was أَجحَدُI deny نِعمةًa favor أُولِيتُهاI was granted it
ما كُنتُ أَجحَدُ نِعمةً أُولِيتُها
إِنكارُهاdenying it عِنديin my view مِنَa form of الكُفرانِingratitude
إِنكارُها عِندي مِنَ الكُفرانِ
I would not deny a favor bestowed upon me.
I do not deny a blessing bestowed on me,
Denying it, in my view, is ingratitude.
To me, denying it is an act of ingratitude.
لَيسَis not الكَريمُthe noble man بِجاحِدٍone who denies مِنany نِعمَةٍfavor
لَيسَ الكَريمُ بِجاحِدٍ مِن نِعمَةٍ
وَأَخوand a man of اللآمةِbaseness جاحِدُone who denies الإِحسانِkindness
وَأَخو اللآمةِ جاحِدُ الإِحسانِ
The noble man denies no favor,
The generous one does not deny any favor,
and the base man denies kindness.
And the brother of blame denies benevolence.
