قيل لي تُبْ مِن غَرامٍ

قيل لي تُبْ مِن غَرامٍ

تَوبَتي مِنهُ ذنوبُ

تَوبَتي مِنهُ ذنوبُ

I was told, “Repent of passionate love.”

They said repent from loving,

My repentance of it is sin.

My repentance from it is a sin,

قُلتُ سَمعاً وَاِمتِثالاً

قُلتُ سَمعاً وَاِمتِثالاً

تُبت مِنْ أَنّي أَتوبُ

تُبت مِنْ أَنّي أَتوبُ

I said, “I hear and obey.”

I said obediently,

I repented of repenting.

I repent from repenting.
