يَلوحُ وَيَخفى حَيثُ في اللَّيلِ ظُلمةُ
I see the charcoal in the brazier, now aflame,
I see embers in the hearth glowing with flames
Gleaming and vanishing in the darkness of night,
Appearing and disappearing where darkness prevails at night

Like an army of the Zanj whose troops have formed a circle,
Like an army of Blacks with masses assembled
And from among them the spearheads appear and disappear.
And tongues appearing and disappearing among them
