ضَمَمتُI held close حَبيبيmy beloved للهِوىout of love وَاِعتَنَقتهُand embraced him
ضَمَمتُ حَبيبي للهِوى وَاِعتَنَقتهُ
وَمِلتُand I leaned عَلىupon فيهِhis mouth إِلىtoward الرّشفِsipping واللّثمِand kissing
وَمِلتُ عَلى فيهِ إِلى الرّشفِ واللّثمِ
I held my beloved close out of love and embraced him.
I embraced my beloved in passion and held him close,
And leaned toward his mouth to sip and kiss.
And leaned towards his mouth to kiss and sip.
وَقَدand indeed قيلَit was said ليto me هَلwas ...? كانَthere was لِلضمِّfor the embrace علّةa reason
وَقَد قيلَ لي هَل كانَ لِلضمِّ علّة
فَقُلتُso I said نَعَمyes كانَwas الهَوىlove عِلَّةthe reason for الضمِّthe embrace
فَقُلتُ نَعَم كانَ الهَوى عِلَّة الضمِّ
And I was asked, “Was there a reason for the embrace?”
And I was asked, "Is there a reason for this embrace?"
So I said, “Yes, love was the reason for the embrace.”
I said "Yes, passion itself was the reason to embrace."
